This talk will cover everything you need to know about versioning software. Starting with a vocabulary to discuss versioning, everything from development to deployment will be covered. You'll learn how to develop with versioning in mind, the differences between compatible and incompatible releases, and we'll cover various tools that can make your life easier all the way from development to deployment. Version numbers and compatibility between versions will also be covered as well as how upgrading and downgrading works. Tagging, branching and other aspects of source control management will also be discussed with focus on CVS, SubVersion and Stream-based source control.

Attendees should come away with a solid understanding of versioning schemes, approaches, methodologies and tools that will make versioning software easier, faster and simpler to understand.
