Leveraging JQuery with Grails

This presentation will go over JQuery, how to use it and how to leverage its functionality to create robust and clean coded web pages. Grails will be used only to facilitate the use but most of the presentation can be used against any framework.

Do you have a love / hate relationship with JavaScript? Do you think JavaScript should just be easier to use? Well JQuery heard your request and has made a powerful but fairly easy JavaScript framework for the masses. The JQuery framework has grown in tremendous popularity over the last year or two, and why? Because it is simple and yet powerful at the same time. In this presentation I will go over the basics of JQuery and how to use different tools within it to make more powerful GUI pages. The presentation will cover a range of topics from selectors to modals to Ajax, in addition you will learn how to debug with Firebug and how best to use JQuery in your web application. These tips and demonstrations can be used in any web application, not just Grails. However, the presentation will specifically target Grails as our basis for creating and demonstrating how to convert a plain application to a JQueryified application. In addition I will go over some basic ways one can use Grails tag libraries and JQuery together in perfect harmony. You will see how this combination of JQuery and Grails was used to create a JQuery/Validator plugin.
