Google Maps API

The Google Maps API is a great way to dip your toe into the world of web mapping. You don't have to worry about finding and managing your own data, installing and configuring your own server, or creating your own cross-browser AJAX mapping framework from scratch. It's a programmer's dream – with a little bit of JavaScript and a few latitude/longitude points, you are off to the races.

This talk (based on the book “Google Maps API: Adding Where to Your Application”) walks you through the entire API from start to finish. You have your first map up in minutes. From there we walk through the core objects in the library, add different map controls, and look at adding your own data to the map. Finally, we look at map event and adding data from remote sources using the standard XmlHttpRequest object.

Whether you are interested in adding maps to your website or just want a nice introduction to Ajax in the real world, this talk is for you. No previous mapping experience is required.
