ASP.NET for the J2EE Coder
No politics, just code: ASP.NET is Microsoft's equivalent to the servlets/JSP/JSF/etc tools, and in this talk we'll focus on how the .NET developer builds a Web client application. We'll see WebForms, ASMX (Web services), the HttpPipeline, and by the end of the talk, you'll be comfortable with terms like “HttpContext” and “HttpModules” and know their Java equivalents.
In addition, we'll look at how ASP.NET relates to IIS, if ASP.NET is as much of a security risk as the anti-Microsoft crowd would have you believe, and in general how the features of .NET combine to create what Microsoft believes to be a compelling platform for doing server-side development. Will it convince you to switch? Not unless you were tempted already, but it will give you the tools and knowledge to understand what's going on in the .NET space, both now and in the near future.
