Power and Perils of Functional, Reactive, and Asynchronous Programming

Thursday - Sep 12 5:00 PM CDT - Concord A&B

We keep hearing the chants, functional programming is awesome, reactive programming is superb, asynchronous programming is the future, reactive programming is dead, functional programming will result in poor performance, and so on. There is partial truth in almost all those statements, but not understanding the details can lead to poor judgement and loosing out on the benefits of the different paradigms.

In this presentation we will take an objective look at each of these paradigms, understand their powers and also their weakness, where they are alive, and in what context they may appear to be dead, and when we should leverage these, and when we may want to look for alternatives.
