I had the pleasure of performing a webcast this morning for developers in different
parts of India. Due to
the 11 ½ hours time difference, we decided to hold it at 7AM to 8:30AM US Central
time so that it would
be from 6:30PM to 8PM for them.
Since most of the time was spent on (writing) code, it was important that I be able
to ?project? the IDE in
addition to the powerpoint. WebEx did a decent job with that. The performance was
very good and it was
effortless to use.
Here are thing I learned today:
+ Having two monitors would be good, so I can see my code and their questions at the
same time
- Don?t try to attach an additional monitor at the last minute. Try it during
the demo/dry run
+ It?s probably good idea to not mute all other lines, hearing some noise confirms
that you are still live
- We lost land line phone connection (not internet) into 10 minutes, but I did
not know. Fortunately, they
called me on my cell number asking me to hang up so they could call
back.
+ If you have given the talk many times, don?t think you have gotten all the questions.
The Q & A had a number of questions I?ve never gotten before,
at least, as part of this talk.
+ 90% of questions can come from 5% of the talk!
+ When all things work, you forget you are talking remotely. You get connected as
developers very quickly.
+ Developers are developers, no matter where they're or how they're connected, and
talking to them is
always a pleasure
I hope the folks who attended enjoyed it as much as I did. Great questions.
