The Discovery of JSON - No Fluff Just Stuff

The Discovery of JSON

Posted by: Douglas Crockford on January 16, 2008

I do not claim to have invented JSON. I claim only that I discovered it. It existed in nature. I identified it, gave it a name, and showed how it was useful.

I never claimed to be the first to have discovered JSON. I made my discovery in the spring of 2001. There were other developers who were using it 2000.

The earliest claim that I am aware of for the use of JavaScript literals for data transport was Slava Galperin, then at Netscape, in June 1996.
