TSE: First session report

Posted by: Craig Walls on December 13, 2007

The first session of TSE2007 is now over and I must say that I attended the best session thus far. I can safely say that it is the best session because (1) it is the only session I've attended and (2) I was the presenter.

I presented Spring in Action, which is a basic getting started with Spring talk that focuses on dependency injection and AOP in Spring, with a little time spent on Spring templates (e.g., JDBC) and declarative transactions. The talk went rather well, but unfortunately, I ran out of time before I was able to talk about declarative transactions. The reason I ran out of time is because there were so many good questions coming from the crowd and I wanted to make sure everybody had a chance to get their questions in. So, although I didn't finish the presentation, I think that it went well and I'm happy that there were plenty of good questions.

Now I'm sitting in Juergen Hoeller's "What's new in Spring 2.5" talk. I've been stay on top of the latest stuff added to Spring, but I've not been able to keep up as well as I'd like. So I hope to round out my understanding of Spring 2.5 goodies in Juergen's talk. Already, I've learned that Spring 2.5 supports RAR-deployment of Spring application contexts, suitable for headless deployment of Spring contexts, specifically in JCA.

After this session, I'll be taking my first break of the conference so that I can spend some time with my family and take my little girls to the beach. I'll be back at the conference later today when I present "Spring Cleaning", a presentation on how to reduce or even eliminate XML in a Spring configuration.
