Hackergarten is a craftmen's workshop, classroom, a laboratory, a social circle, a writing group, a playground, and an artist's studio. Our goal is to create something that others can use; whether it be working software, improved documentation, or better educational materials. Our intent is to end each meeting with a patch or similar contribution submitted to an open and public project. Membership is open to anyone willing to contribution their time.
Hackergarten has been running for close to 4.5 years now. We started small one chilly afternoon at the Canoo offices; just a bunch of like-minded people working on open source projects, no biggie. We didn't expect what happened next. Suddenly people expressed their interest to run their own Hackergarten: (Vienna, Mexico City, London, Vancouver to begin with. Then came in the conferences: Jazoon, Gr8Conf (both EU and US), Devoxx, and yes, even JavaOne (name slightly changed to CodeGarten). Some of the reactions of people that have attended Hackergarten are
Nice, isn't it? Too good to be true? Well guess what, Hackergarten is coming to a location near you; that's right
The following conferences have confirmed Hackergarten meetings for the next couple of months:
If you're planning to attend any of these conferences then consider joining the Hackergarten. It only takes as much time as you can spare.
That's right, even if a Hackergarten meeting appears as a full day scheduled session you only give as much as time as you want, so you don't loose the rest of the conference talks. However I must warn you, we've seen people have so much fun that they meet again the very next day and continue working on new things. That's the power of Hackergarten.
So.
Let's have some fun and hack some great code while at it, here's your chance to make the world a better place, one commit at a time.
