Where in the World is Griffon?

Posted by: Andres Almiray on February 15, 2013

Often times when presenting Griffon at conferences someone asks who's using it. My usual reply gravitates towards desktop application development not not being discussed as much as web and mobile however it's still very much alive. The Griffon Artifact Portal was launched 12 months ago, and it's been gathering download stats since. I've posted two entries in the past showing some interesting trends. However those stats don't show where around the world is Griffon being used, until now.

Since yesterday the Griffon Artifact Portal sports a brand new section where you can find download stats computed right to the last one. This section shows a World Map with downloads per country. The following table lists the top 10 countries by downloads

Country Total
United States 25036
Germany 3691
China 3371
Japan 1034
Spain 640
United Kingdom 581
Italy 494
Netherlands 342
Russian Federation 327
Switzerland 317

In that page we can also observe that usage of JDK7 keeps rising and that Linux continues to be the dominant platform for developing/testing applications. Another change added to the portal: artifacts show a World Map with downloads specific to them. For example, miglayout is by far the most downloaded plugin with a total of 1746 downloads when this entry was written. If you navigate to the statistics tab you'll see the downloads mapped by country. These are the top 10 countries for miglayout

Country Total
United States 1076
Germany 122
Japan 60
United Kingdom 47
China 40
Spain 36
Brazil 24
Denmark 23
Mexico 22
Italy 21
