Greach 2.0: a small report

Posted by: Andres Almiray on February 15, 2013

Greach 2.0 just took place the last weekend of January in Madrid. What's Greach you ask? It's the first Groovy/Grails/Griffon/Gradle (and other Gr8 tech) conference for Spanish speakers. The main change for this second edition was to allow non-Spanish talks to be submitted. As a consequence the level and quality of the whole experience was raised to new heights as attendees had the chance to engage face-to-face with Groovy luminaries such as Graeme Rocher (well, he speaks Spanish too), Russel Winder, Marcin Erdmann, Cédric Champeau, the 3 Mous3k3t33rs (Corinne, Frabice and Sébastien) and Stéephane Maldini. We also had a host of local talent that shows there's growing interest in Groovy in several places around Spain. The organizers also deemed necessary to expand the run of the conference to two tracks and two days.

From my part I presented two talks: Groovy AST Demystified and Griffon Jumpstart. The first talk is about my experiences when encountering and writing Groovy AST transformations. These little guys can give you a huge productivity boost; you also find them more and more in Groovy projects, so understanding how they work is a good thing. The second talk is about getting a Griffon application off the ground in a matter of minutes. You'll find links to presentation materials and videos of the talks too.

Overall Greach 2.0 was a great conference to begin the year. Looking forward to the next edition.

Keep on Groovying!
