About this Presentation

The Android plugin for Gradle does more than just build apps. This presentation will start with the fundamentals, showing how to configure the plugin and add common dependencies. Then it will go beyond them to show useful, practical aspects of Android development that are made particularly easy using Gradle.

Demonstrations will include:

  • Adding a signing configuration and generate a release apk
  • Creating product flavors along multiple dimensions
  • Running both unit and Espresso tests on multiple devices simultaneously
  • Merging test reports into a single set of web pages
  • Using interesting ad hoc tasks for deployment, skipping tasks with a name pattern, and more
  • The goal is to show you how to take advantage of capabilities of Gradle builds in Android that go beyond the basics.
